Unit Planning

Unit planning is how you organize your course structure. In Stages 3 and 4 of the workflow, you define units and map Knowledge Model concepts to them.

Defining units

After the Knowledge Model is built, Chelle suggests a unit structure based on the natural groupings it finds in your material. You can:

  • Accept — use Chelle's suggested structure as-is
  • Modify — rename, reorder, split, or merge suggested units
  • Create from scratch — define your own unit structure entirely

Mapping concepts to units

Once you have your units, you assign concepts from the Knowledge Model to each one. This step ensures:

  • Complete coverage — every concept is assigned to at least one unit
  • No orphans — Chelle highlights concepts that aren't assigned anywhere
  • Logical sequence — prerequisites are covered before dependent concepts

Ordering and dependencies

The Knowledge Model's prerequisite connections help you sequence your units. Chelle warns if a unit depends on concepts that haven't been introduced yet in earlier units.
